Cole has been having an ear infection every other month for the past 18 months or so... finally, I made his doctor look at the history AGAIN, and she finally said, "let me refer you to an ENT." I was glad to get this taken care of once and for all, but then apprehensive also because I knew that it meant surgery for my little baby. Of course, the first meeting with the ENT went with a hearing test where it showed he had hearing loss. This would be fixed after tubes were in they told me. Interesting, probably why he took so long to talk! Then we met with the ENT specialist who, after a few minutes looked in his ears and noticed they were infected and had plentiful fluid behind both ears. Cole had just ended his antibiotics for a double ear infection two days prior... so the antibiotics weren't working anymore, and I was fine with the decision for getting tubes. 5 days later we were at the hospital at 6am... and my kids were unusually hyper.

When we first got there, we had to undress him in the little kid gowns, which were kinda cute with his diaper bum sticking out the back. They gave him some tylenol with codine in it, and then they took him away. We waited for about 10 minutes and then they brought us back to speak with the ENT specialist who did the surgery. It all went well, and he took out all the fluid. Good report. But then all during this after-surgery consultation, I was hearing my baby screaming down the hall. I couldn't really focus on anything he was saying because I wanted to get my baby back in my arms. So, the doctor finishes and lets us return to Cole's surgery room where the nurse is holding him. He is deliriously screaming and continues for awhile. This was probably the hardest part of it all for me and him. Seeing him so confused and mad with bloody ears. We had to wait 30 minutes for observation and he was screaming for half of that! But glad it's over and glad he can start hearing again and not be in constant pain!

You know I was I think about 3 or 4 when I had my surgery and I still remember waking up from the surgery sitting in the nurse's lap screaming too. Its hard for a kid waking up from surgery, they are so confused! But the whole thing is always harder on the mamma than the child. I am glad he got the surgery done though!
Am I a sick person if I think tiny children look SOOOO cute in hospital gowns? I'm glad eveything's okay and glad you came last night.
How awful for you guys to have to see him like that. But hopefully this will save him pain in the long run!!!
How sad about him crying and being confused. That part would make me cry. Glad all went well though and that hopefully this will be the end of his ear infections. Hope you guys are doing well.
Yes, it is always harder on us than it is the kids, they are so resilient and flexible and we aren't at all, but Cole is lucky that he has you as his mommy because I know you're taking great care of him!!! Give him a big love for me. And can you believe Kenzie and Cole are going to be 2 next weekend??? Holy moly!!!
I'm so sorry you both had to go through that, I know it had to have been absolute mom torture! Glad he's better now, though.
Oh, I am so happy to hear that he won't be in pain anymore. There is nothing worse than a hurting baby.
I love the pictures from the hospital. I think you're right. Nothing like a little diaper bum sticking out of a hospital gown. :)
